About The Position

Job Title : Emergency Room Nurse

Profession : Nursing

Specialty : Emergency Room Nurse

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : Nights

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : Minimum of 2 years

License : Current RN licensure

Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Must-Have :

  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
  • High level of mental and emotional tolerance
  • Ability to function as a team member

Description :

Provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of established standards.

Uses the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, development of a plan of care, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient care outcomes for a diverse age population.

Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and determine priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs.

Engage in hourly rounding within the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room for patients waiting for care.

Document in-depth nursing history, including chief complaint and health care status.

Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing assessments.

Ensure that supplies and equipment for emergency patient care are readily available and in working order.

Continuously update the plan of care to meet the needs of patients and their families based on continuous assessment and reevaluation.

Includes elements of discharge planning and ongoing discussions with patients and families.

Manage all types of complications and emergencies per established policies and standards.

Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care to ensure patient safety.

Document and act on patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care.

Implement health education for the Emergency Department patients and their families.

Educate patients and families on treatment prior to initiation.

Assist patients / families with accurate information on health status and referrals.

Document understanding of discharge teaching information provided to patients and families.

Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
