Field Service Technicians act as advocates for the company providing customer service on-site and off-site worldwide. The Field Service Technician will install, troubleshoot, and repair large thermal processing equipment used primarily in solar cell manufacturing. The individual will also execute and meet agreed timelines set by Project Management and the Customer.

Scope of duties

  • Travel 80% of the time.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and organization.
  • Collect data and submit weekly reports.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, start-up, and hand-off acceptance of company products worldwide.
  • Travel to customer sites alone or as part of a Field Service team.
  • Establish and maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S practices.
  • Take responsibility for organization and storage of tools, equipment, and parts inventory.
  • Summarize work activities, collect data, and send clear and concise e-mails to main office as necessary.
  • Provide remote customer support via email, phone, and TeamViewer.
  • Submit Field Service Reports weekly to summarize daily activities and work hours.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed and maintained, including near-miss reporting.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and PPE as needed whenever potential hazards exist.
  • Work with Manager to continue development path as outlined in training matrix.
  • Ensure certifications are current (LOTO, ARC-Flash, Forklift, Respirator, etc.).
  • Respect methods, checklists, and procedures established by Engineering.
  • Adjust and operate certain equipment to complete assigned tasks safely and timely.
  • Contribute and provide feedback to improve checklists and procedures.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis and provide feedback to Engineering.
  • Assist with the setting or positioning of equipment to secure machinery.
  • When directed by the Department Manager conduct training classes at customer sites or main office.
  • Assist in other areas deemed necessary by Department Manager to help achieve optimum company goals such as Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and R&D.
  • Submit credit card statements and corresponding receipts on time each month to Accounting for audit tracking.
  • Reports to a lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Follow Onsite Manager direction if active on-site.
  • Requires moderate supervision.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain a positive and cooperative attitude while interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Must be a self-starter and work efficiently.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time worldwide.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings / blueprints / diagrams.
  • Ability to set up, operate, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software systems in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment or other large complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • May have to complete an apprenticeship and / or formal training in an area of specialty.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs at a beginner to intermediate level, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • High school diploma, secondary technical degree, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and wear respiratory protection as required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport for international travel.
  • Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.
  • Requires 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • One who possesses a continuous improvement mindset and challenges the norm is highly preferred.
  • Experience with high voltage electrical, hazardous materials, thermal systems, and computer and PLC based control systems helpful.
