Education Level : Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
Licensure / Certification Requirements
Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
Evaluate the results of patient respiratory care delivered per care plans.Administer and chart the effects of routine respiratory therapy and medication.Set up, maintain, and chart the usage of oxygen therapy, aerosol / humidity therapy, and ventilator therapy.Provide ventilator support and airway management across all age groups.Perform arterial blood gas and capillary blood gas analysis (with Medical Director approval).Participate in blood gas quality controls and proficiency studies.May be trained in endotracheal intubation and arterial line insertion; may take on a charge role.Complete assessments on ventilator patients and all others receiving respiratory care services.Accurately chart on respiratory flow sheets in the EMR and care plans.Process and maintain respiratory equipment.Department Specific Job Functions
Evaluate patients for routine respiratory care therapy on inpatient units.Assess patients for routine respiratory care therapy in the Emergency Room.Evaluate patients for advanced respiratory care therapy in the ICUs.Participate in all Transport teams for both PEDS and Adult.Obtain and analyze blood gases (Arterial, Venous, and Capillary).Assist in cleaning respiratory care-related equipment.Help stock respiratory care-related supplies on inpatient care units.Join us in providing exceptional care and support to our patients.
