The Research Technology Informatics & Platforms team seeks a Senior Cloud Engineer who is a hands-on technical expert, owns sophisticated infrastructure, and pursues leadership growth within the organization.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based solutions supporting high-performance computing, data analytics, and scientific workflows.
  • Lead the implementation of scalable architectures on AWS using Kubernetes for container orchestration, ensuring high reliability, security, and performance.
  • Build and optimize pipelines using Databricks for large-scale data processing and machine learning.
  • Automate infrastructure deployment and monitoring using modern DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Solve sophisticated technical issues across cloud platforms and collaborate with researchers and data scientists to deliver seamless solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate scientific requirements into scalable technical architectures.
  • Contribute to the development of standard methodologies and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

How You'll Succeed

  • Demonstrate deep hands-on expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and ideally Databricks, with a track record of delivering production-grade cloud solutions.
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to architect, build, and optimize cloud-native applications supporting research informatics.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly, enabling scientists and partners to harness cloud technologies effectively.
  • Embrace a growth mindset and actively seek opportunities to expand leadership capabilities and technical mastery.
  • Stay ahead of emerging cloud trends, evaluating and integrating new features to maintain technological excellence.
  • What You Should Bring

  • Advanced proficiency in AWS and Kubernetes, with hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with Databricks or similar data engineering platforms preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in Python with knowledge of automation and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and distributed systems in cloud environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and mentor others, with a clear vision for future growth into people leadership roles.
  • Continuous learning attitude, with passion for exploring new technologies and driving innovation.
  • Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles supporting data-intensive scientific or business environments.
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Databricks.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining complex cloud architectures in production.

    Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and location. The anticipated wage for this position is $148,500 - $235,400. Full-time employees are eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits program including 401(k), health benefits, and more. Lilly reserves the right to amend compensation programs at its discretion.
