CMA / LPN

NATURE OF WORK : Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease management or provide case management. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by the physician. Since the Licensed Practical Nurse / Medical Assistant are usually the patients first direct contact with the medical staff, a pleasant and sensitive attitude is demanded. The selected candidate for this position will travel between the Wharton office and the Van school-based healthcare facility when coverage is needed. The schedule for this position will be 30 hours per week, with work days and hours varying according to staffing needs.\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : \n

• Ability to perform Essentials Duties as outlined below.\n
• Certified Medical Assistant or\n
• Graduate from an accredited practical nurse program.\n
• Passed the State Board.\n
• Working knowledge of computers.\n
• Ability to comply with LPCC's and Division departmental safety procedures.\n
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.\n\nESSENTIAL DUTIES : \n
• Screens patients (height, weight, vital signs, history of problem, etc.) and prepares patients to see the provider.\n
• Prepares exam rooms for occupancy and assists with the flow of patients to facilitate the processing of each patient.\n
• Provides basic screening procedures including, but not limited to EKG, audiometry, visual screening, hydroculator, nebulizer treatment, Holter monitor and FAPS.\n
• Assists the provider with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including Paps, Colposcopy, Cryosurgery, LEEPS minor surgeries, etc, as directed by the supervisor or provider.\n
• Instructs the patient in certain aspects of health care as directed by the supervisor or provider.\n
• Responds to patient telephone inquiries, giving factual information according to the nature of the question; secures for the patient information about illness and health problems and reports accurately to the provider.\n
• Centralized scheduling handles patient scheduling, referrals, medical records filing, faxing, calling in prescriptions, and other duties as needed.\n
• Maintains effective communication with patient, families, and staff of LPCC.\n
• Maintains, as directed, the supplies, medications and equipment used at LPCC.\n
• Carry out the physician's orders as directed.\n
• Administers medications under the direct supervision of the physician.\n
• Assists with emergencies (lacerations, patients with MIs, etc.)\n
• Records and completes the patient charts as directed by the physicians.\n
• Assists with the compilation of various statistical reports as required by the administration.\n
• Schedules referral appointments and assist in obtaining records and reports from consultations and referrals.\n
• Operates normal office equipment such as computers, fax machines and copiers as needed.\n
• Projects a professional image to the public.\n
• Follows LPCC's policies and procedures in dealing with clients.\n
• Submits documentation in a timely and accurate manner.\n
• Support and help in the training of new employees.\n
• Attends inservice trainings and mandated meetings as assigned.\n
• Assists to maintain the patient files and medical records.\n
• Hours may vary based upon assignment (schoolbased health facility, community health facility, special events, etc.)\n
• OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
