Accounting And Auditing Professional
Under general supervision, to perform and supervise professional accounting and auditing work, and to do other related work as may be required.
Works under the general supervision of the City Controller and / or Deputy City Controller and / or the Accounting Supervisor.

Analyses, controls, projects, and summarizes financial data
Prepares, supervise and reviews estimates of revenue, reimbursements, expenditures, fund conditions and other investments and budgetary appropriations
Reconciles general ledger accounts, the bank accounts and cash receipts
Audits cash and other general ledger account transactions
Reviews and researches accounting problems, developing and implementing problem-solving mechanism;
Records interest bearing profits and verifies interest earned on City or departmental funds;
Prepares and post journal entries and closing entries;
Maintains accounting records for various accounts;
Prepares financial reports and statements;
Prepares the monthly expenditure and revenue report;
Keeps records of capital asset purchases; and
Forecast financial position and trends
Utilizes financial and spreadsheet programs on personal computer and mainframe platforms.
Monitors grant expenditures and capital improvement projects, prepares reports, and verifies that grant requirements are satisfied.
Participates in training sessions for related topics
Performs training for peers, subordinates, and for staff in other departments for accounting or finance related topics
Assists with yearly audit process.
Manages special projects as directed
Performs other accounting and reporting duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience : Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field; AND Equivalent to two years of professional experience performing accounting or auditing work in the capacity of an Accountant I. Additional two years of qualifying experience may be substituted for one year of required education. Required Licenses or Certifications : Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License.

City organization, operations, policies and procedures
Public sector accounting and budgeting systems and procedures
Accounting policies, procedures, and standards
City ordinances, codes, policies, resolutions, and agreements related to accounting activities
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for public sector finance
Accounting software relative to local government financial operations.

Reviewing and verifying mathematical calculations, maintaining accurate accounting records, and identifying and reconciling errors.
Performing and coordinating a variety of professional accounting functions.
Monitoring and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, policies, and standards.
Reconciling general ledgers and bank accounts.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Work is primarily performed indoors in a standard office environment. Work requires frequent light lifting, sorting, filing, typing and on occasion climbing (up to 4 feet). Moderate finger dexterity and near vision is required. May be exposed to minor amounts of dust and occasional sounds of office equipment running.
