Under the supervision of ACFS Supervisor, assist Tribal members in obtaining social services including crisis intervention, child protection, substance abuse, and mental health programs at Anishnaabeg Child and Family Services (ACFS). All ACFS staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist Tribal community members in obtaining the necessary social services from local, county, state and private social services agencies.
- Act as a liaison between the Indian community and social services agencies.
- Assist in recruiting and developing foster and shelter homes to service members or eligible members of the Tribe.
- Investigate and prepare case plans of actual or suspected child, elder, vulnerable adult abuse, neglect and abandonment for the Community Court.
- Conduct random and alcohol drug screens.
- Provide protective services on an emergency and on call basis.
- Prepare and provide home studies for the Committee in order to make recommendations on youths and adults who are before Tribal, State or Federal courts.
- Prepare and submit court review reports and / or Minor in Need of Care Petitions to Tribal Court.
- Testify at Tribal Court on client progress and in support of submitted court review reports
- Provide crisis intervention and family counseling for Tribal members.
- Maintain case files on all clients.
- Submit monthly statistical and narrative reports which outline the number of case and nature of work activities to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
- Submit narrative staff reports to the Committee.
- Recommend expert consulting when required.
- Travel to and from clients services sites.
- Actively participate or facilitate Care Coordination Team meetings and / or participate on the Child Protection Team.
- Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with ACFS policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Empowered to interact with all levels of personnel in order to communicate operational decisions.Frequent contact with administrative staff, the Tribal community, and members of the general public as individuals or groups.Contact with local, county, state, and private social service agencies.Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in Social Services or Human Services.Must be able to effectively communicate and have good computer skills.Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.Desired Qualifications :
Two years social services, families first worker, or family preservation experience.Full Licensure (LBSW) or Limited licensed individuals (LLBSW) must obtain licensure within two years from date of hire.Experience working with tribal communities and outside social services.License, Certification, or Special Requirements :
Obtain HIPAA certification within five business days of hire.Must have a valid State of Michigan Drivers License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.Native American preference shall apply to all positions.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.Knowledge of Social Services practices and programs.Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Child Protection Teams, and State and Federal programs and their codes / laws.Knowledge of childrens code, State and Federal by-laws pertaining to children.Skill in human relation as required working with children / youth and families.Skill in effective interviewing, listening and writing.Skill in operating various word-processing and database software programs.Skill in treating patients with tact, courtesy, and respect.Skill in preparing, reviewing and analyzing operational and financial reports.Ability to work closely with the Law Enforcement Department and the Courts on a daily basis.Ability to work under heavy stress situations.Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.Ability to react quickly and make effective decisions in an emergency situation.Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends and evenings.Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Ability to maintain quality, safety, and / or infection control standards.Physical Demands :
Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.Required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.Occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 pounds.Work Environment :
