GENERAL SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant, CNA, Nursing Assistant is a non-professional staff member who performs patient duties to obtain clinical information / data, clinical CLIA waved lab testing, and testing on medical equipment, necessary for the medical office visit. This assistance is under supervision of the Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse, and the physician / physician extender.

To provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the Communities we serve.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Escort patients to exam rooms and take B / P, temperature and record height and weight. Make a note of past medical history and any complaints, according to the specific clinic duties.

2. Responsible for any miscellaneous phone calls to patients, as appropriate to specific clinic.

3. Make referrals by phone to area physician offices and hospitals for tests and consults, as appropriate to specific clinic.

4. File correspondence in patient files for respective provider, as appropriate to specific clinic.

5. Address recall cards, and test result cards, as appropriate to specific clinic.

6. Put dictation notes on progress notes, as appropriate to specific clinic.

7. Enroll patients and maintain the Pharmacy Assistance Program for respective provider, as appropriate to specific clinic.

8. Restock exam rooms with needed supplies, as appropriate to specific clinic.

9. Perform venipunctures, drug screens, cilia waved tests, and all other medical equipment testing as needed, and ordered by the physician / physician extender.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks :

  • Floor to waist - 40 pounds
  • 14" to waist - 50 pounds
  • Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
  • Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
  • Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet
  • Push 40 pounds / force for 30 feet
  • Pull 40 pounds / force for 10 feet

2. Basic lifting / bending : Boxes, medical equipment, patient care.

3. Basic twisting, turning : During above functions.

4. Basic vigorous walking : Daily functions of transferring patients to care area during a fast paced, busy clinic.

5. Basic prolonged standing : During daily functions at nursing workstations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Float Pool Nurse Manager

Qualifications

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Must be oriented, and certified by in-house respective lab supervisor for all CLIA

Waved testing and RN / LPN accordingly to any and all job skills required to perform said duties, in this clinical department.

2. Visual acuity to hear patient verbal communication and gather data using auscultatory skills.

3. Must be able to follow directions.

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL

Category I - Maximal Risk - this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like.

2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety

and health precautions and equipment are used.
