Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Registered Respiratory Therapist Discipline : Allied Health Professional Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, nights Employment Type : Travel Job Summary - Senior Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Therapist II) Under the direction of department leadership and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Senior Respiratory Therapist delivers advanced-level respiratory care to patients across assigned clinical areas. This role requires independent, competent management of respiratory therapies and procedures aimed at assessing, preventing, and treating respiratory dysfunction. Key responsibilities include : Administering standard respiratory therapies : aerosol medication delivery, oxygen therapy, breathing exercises, and arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling. Managing airway procedures including aspiration, tracheostomy care and changes, endotracheal intubation / extubation. Providing mechanical ventilation support, including advanced ventilator modes and weaning techniques. Serving as a clinical resource and mentor to other staff. Specialized roles may include : Carolina Air Care : Transport of neonatal and pediatric patients, with advanced procedures per UNC Air Care Protocol (e.g., UAC / UVC placement, IO insertion, chest tube placement, needle decompression, ABGs, blood glucose monitoring). ECMO : Management of extracorporeal circulation systems for cardiac and respiratory support. Additional details : May be required to take call during nights, weekends, and holidays. Expected to function with minimal supervision and actively maintain and expand clinical competencies. May perform bedside pulmonary function testing and provide advanced respiratory support based on patient condition and clinical setting.
