Custodial Worker I

The Custodial Worker I performs general and special interior cleaning, custodial duties, some exterior cleaning tasks, and minor maintenance of multiple facilities. The successful candidate will have knowledge of cleaning practices and light building maintenance. General work duties are performed with considerable independence. Work is conducted during the evening, early morning, and / or weekends. The Custodial Worker I is regularly exposed to hazardous chemicals and must follow safety precautions related to moisture, dust, fumes, chemicals, and refuse.
Perform routine custodial tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping, carpet cleaning, hard-floor waxing, and related duties.
Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, door handles, and floors, including mopping. Responsible for the cleanup of potentially infectious materials (e.g., vomit, urine, feces), duties may be performed in closed facilities, in public areas, or during public events.
Replace light bulbs and perform minor fixture maintenance as needed.
Work may involve exposure to moisture, dust, fumes, chemicals, and refuse.
Maintain exterior building areas, including landscaped grounds. Tasks may include sweeping sidewalks, shoveling snow from walkways, pressure washing paved surfaces, vacuuming debris, mowing, weeding, trimming, and watering landscape features.
Shift differential pay, 6% or $1.25 / hour (whichever is greater) for shifts starting after 4 : 30 p.m. and ending before 8 : 00 a.m.

Position schedule is primary Monday - Friday, 5 : 00 p.m. 1 : 30 a.m., some overtime and weekends as needed.

Must pass the pre-employment background check and job fitness assessment.
Must have an Oregon Drivers license and meet the City of Salems driving standards.
High school diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years experience in custodial work indicating ability to perform duties with a minimum of direct supervision, including cleaning or minor maintenance and upkeep of work area, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
Must pass a criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance and Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment).
