POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our development projects from inception to completion. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong real estate accounting experience who can handle the complexities of multiunit development accounting, including job costing, project tracking, and comprehensive financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Management & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities and development projects
- Maintain detailed general ledger accounts and perform monthly account reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accuracy
- Manage cash flow projections and monitor project-specific budgets
- Prepare variance analysis reports comparing actual vs. budgeted performance
Development Project Accounting
Implement and maintain job costing systems for active development projectsTrack construction costs, development expenses, and project profitabilityCoordinate with project managers to ensure accurate allocation of costs to specific developmentsMonitor draw requests and construction loan compliance requirementsPrepare project completion reports and final cost summariesTax Preparation & Compliance
Prepare various tax returns including corporate income tax, partnership returns, and property tax filingsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulationsAssist with tax planning strategies and work with external tax advisorsMaintain supporting documentation for all tax positions and filingsHandle sales tax compliance for development activitiesSystems & Process Management
Maintain and optimize QuickBooks Enterprise system for multiple entitiesDevelop and maintain Excel-based financial models and reporting templatesCreate and update accounting policies and proceduresAssist with month-end and year-end closing processesSupport annual audit processes and coordinate with external CPA firmAdministrative & Collaborative Duties
Provide financial analysis to support management decision-makingAssist with loan applications and provide financial data to lendersSupport due diligence processes for potential acquisitions or partnershipsMaintain organized filing systems for financial records and supporting documentationPerform other duties as assigned by managementREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredMinimum 5 years of progressive accounting experienceReal estate development or construction accounting experience requiredPublic accounting experience preferredTechnical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, and financial modelingExpert-level QuickBooks experience (QuickBooks Enterprise strongly preferred)Demonstrated tax preparation experience including corporate and partnership returnsStrong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany transactionsProfessional Skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracyStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesProficiency in meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environmentProfessional demeanor and ability to maintain confidential informationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPA certification or active pursuit of certificationExperience with construction draws and loan complianceKnowledge of 1031 like-kind exchangesFamiliarity with property management softwareExperience with cost segregation studiesUnderstanding of real estate syndication accountingPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
