A Brief Overview

Functions as a member of Cardiac Rehabilitation staff assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of assigned patients.

What You Will Do

Assists with the orientation of new participants, responsible for the initial oral and written assessment of the patient and assists in development of the care plan with other staff members.

Supervises exercise session, monitoring patients for inappropriate responses to exercise. Responsible for blood pressure checks on all patients pre and post exercise and watching for abnormal responses on the telemetry device. Assesses patients pre, during and post exercise making appropriate referrals and / or recommendations to the patient, other staff, Medical Director and referring physician.

Reports any significant patient conditions(dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure responses, change in patients status, etc.) to the patients cardiologist. Initiates ACLS measures and / or emergency care according to hospital policy.

Charts and documents initial assessment and daily patient information and progress.

Initiates patient education using the interdisciplinary patient and family teaching record and updates routinely.

Checks emergency supplies and equipment for proper function and adequate supply on a regular basis. Attends mock codes on a routine basis giving appropriate feedback and constructive criticism where appropriate.

Attends all scheduled staff meetings and participates in quarterly staff education.

Maintains RN licensure. Keeps current in the field of Cardiac Rehabilitation through journals, in-services, and conferences.

Demonstrate accurate cardiovascular physical assessment.

Interprets twelve-lead electrocardiogram accurately with particular emphasis on identification of significant ischemic changes. Correlates appropriate interventions based on interpretations.

Performs emergency cardiac care measures, including defibrillation, initiation and maintenance of intravenous fluids, giving emergency medications and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation and / or advanced cardiac life support measures.

Identifies dysrhythmias accurately and correlates appropriate interventions.

Operates twelve-lead electrocardiogram and / or monitoring and telemetry monitoring equipment.

Performs psychomotor exercises at activity levels consistent with phases of Cardiac Rehabilitation protocol.

Utilizes educational techniques consistent with principles of teaching and learning.

Operates audiovisual equipment for patient education.

Operates ambulatory monitoring equipment.

Promotes behavioral changes consistent with medication compliance, smoking withdrawal, dietary modification and appropriate exercise habits.

Education Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited nursing school. Required and

Bachelor's Degree BSN Preferred

Experience Qualifications

1-3 years 1 year relevant experience preferred (cardiac rehab, cardiology, critical care) Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire Required and

E-Learning Instructional Design Certification Valid NJ RN license Upon Hire Required
