Director Of Instructional Technology

Mission : The Director of Instructional Technology is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans and policies, managing a portfolio of cross-functional technical programs, and driving the work to scale instructional technology implementation across IDEA's nine regions. The director leverages strategic partnerships with Academic Services, Schools, Human Assets, and College Success teams to design, implement, and improve processes and systems to integrate technology into every classroom in a way that ensures the seamless delivery of quality instruction and an equitable learning experience for all IDEA scholars.

The director is also responsible for the evaluation, selection, and optimization of enterprise instructional technology solutions at IDEA Public Schools. This includes implementing district IT (Information Technology) policies while encouraging the creative and independent use of existing technologies to support student achievement in our K-12 classrooms. This role represents the diverse needs of campus users as part of the broader Information Systems and Technology Team serving as the owner of cross-functional knowledge management and the primary designer of communications, training programs, support resources, and digital content for enterprise adoption initiatives. Additionally, the director provides strategic advice to senior leadership regarding instructional technology to meet an array of budgetary and stakeholder needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities : Directly manage Instructional Technology Application Manager, Technical Trainer, and IST Onboarding and Technical Trainer.

Location : This is a full-time hybrid (remote and onsite) position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland / Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations :

  • This role requires 30% travel to campuses across multiple regions.
  • This role works remotely when not traveling and visiting campuses.
  • Travel within the Region throughout the year as necessary.
  • Travel to IDEA training events or step-back may be required.

What You'll Do Accountabilities :

Essential Duties :

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive instructional technology plan aligned with educational goals.
  • Oversees the selection, integration, and evaluation of educational technology tools and resources.
  • Provides leadership and support for professional development in instructional technology for teachers and staff.
  • Manages the instructional technology budget and allocates resources effectively.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to identify and address technology-related challenges and opportunities.
  • Ensures the secure and effective operation of instructional technology infrastructure and systems.
  • Stays current with educational technology trends and best practices.
  • Additional Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Data Analysis and Reporting : Collects and analyzes data on technology usage and student outcomes to inform decision-making and measure program effectiveness.
  • Technology Infrastructure : Oversees the maintenance and improvement of the school's technology infrastructure, including network, hardware, and software.
  • Digital Equity : Promotes digital equity by ensuring equitable access to technology and digital learning opportunities for all students.
  • Student Data Privacy and Security : Protects student data privacy and security by implementing and enforcing data protection policies and procedures.
  • Collaboration : Builds strong partnerships with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to foster a collaborative learning environment.

  • Additional Skills :

  • Understanding of IDEA's PK-12 curriculum and national / state / local standards and initiatives preferred.
  • Ability to work across diverse teams in a high-growth organization.
  • Balance of business and technical knowledge of hardware, software, systems, and Cloud products.
  • Strong customer service and influence skills across multiple organizational levels.
  • Strong understanding of backend development processes with large-scale systems.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to collect and analyze input from multiple sources (clients, sales, engineering, competitors, marketing, and management) supported by proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power Platform, Dataverse, and other tools to analyze data and provide appropriate visualizations and insights.
  • Required experience :

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Licenses or Certifications : Professional certifications aligned to role highly preferred. ITIL4 / ITSM; Project Management, Change Management, Microsoft for Education, Service Adoption, Azure Administration, Security, Compliance & Identity, Power Platform Functional Consultant.
  • Experience : Minimum of 5 years K-12 teaching experience required with 3+ years of related classroom experience using technology to improve teaching and learning.
  • Minimum of 3 years instructional leadership or technical program management (Instructional Technology, Information Technology or related).
  • Minimum of 3 years in training, marketing, communication, or design industry with proven skills in user-centered design and developing client-facing collateral.
  • Experience moving large-scale technical programs or products from inception to delivery, and experience articulating the impact using metrics, growth examples, return, etc.

  • What We Offer :

    Compensation & Benefits : Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $98,200 and $115,900, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
