EvergreenHealth Monroe, a small semi-rural acute care hospital has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Decontamination & Sterilization Certified Technician to fill a position in our Decontamination and Sterilization Unit, staffed with 24 / 7 board-certified Internal Medicine Hospitalists.The hospital seeks a Surgical Technologist to help provide staffing coverage in our Surgical Services department which includes 3 OR Suites, 2 Procedure Rooms and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) seeing primarily orthopedic and general surgery cases. This is a day shift position, working 8-hour shifts with minimal standby and on-call rotation requirements, which will be further clarified for candidates during the interview process.

Wage Range : $25.64 - $38.06 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation, such as per diem stipend in lieu of benefits, may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Adheres to EHM Policies and Procedures. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Assists nursing and surgical staff with direct patient care activities. Assumes responsibility for assembling the supplies needed for the case and providing technical assistance in the operating room. Assists in the delivery of quality patient care through the utilization of technical skills. Performs technical duties relating to scrub personnel, including smooth, precise, and efficient reaction to all situations, and assists with departmental work as assigned. Participates in departmental staff meetings and educational offerings. Participates in unit QI activities. Knows the legal limitations relating to the role of operating room technologist and acts accordingly. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE :
High school graduate and completion of an ORT program with one-year clinical experience as an ORT, or previous experience as an ORT with on-the-job training documented to the hospital’s satisfaction. Certification by the Association of Surgery Technologists required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Washington State Surgical Technologist (ST) license required.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Knowledge in the use of and cleaning / sterilization / disinfection of equipment and instrumentation utilized in the clinical operating room setting. Ability to organize supplies utilized for each surgical procedure both routine and emergent.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / HAZARDS AND COMPLIANCE :
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases and risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. Complies with manager’s instructions and hospital policies regarding reporting injuries and hazards / hazardous conditions and attends safety training as required. Works in a safe manner at all times by using appropriate protective equipment and maintains personal protective equipment as instructed. Participates in health and safety initiatives.
WORK CONTACT GROUP : All hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to assist in moving patients. Must be able to lift instrument trays and equipment weighing 10-50 pounds. Must possess visual, touch, and manual dexterity. Must be able to communicate in the English language.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / TECHNICAL
1. Establishes cooperative, supportive, trusting inter- and intra-departmental relationships with co-workers and consumers Maintains monthly staff schedule, assumes responsibility to staff sick calls and cover vacations
2. Answers telephone in an expedient, professional manner.
3. Verifies with Operating Room staff that proper instruments, sets and equipment are on hand and working properly. Tracks and organizes refurbishing of one instrument tray a month.
4. Recognizes request for urgent sterile instruments or sets and responds immediately.
5. Updates all inventory lists of instrument sets or trays to ensure correct kind and amount of instruments per set. Reports to CNM if instruments need to be repaired or replaced.
6. Identifies service related problems and suggests ways to improve quality and productivity. Reads and uses communication book if necessary to relay pertinent information.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of and participates in continuing education programs (infection control policies, new equipment, new instruments, sets, disaster drills).
8. Ensures that all areas are clean, organized and ready for the next shift or next daily schedule of procedures.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of operation of steam sterilizers, washer decontamination, washer sterilizer and heat seal machine.
10. Demonstrates knowledge and ability in reprocessing of all re-usable instruments (decontamination, set identification, preparation, sterilization, distribution and rotation).
11. Assists in cleaning, inspecting and sterilizing of all nursing unit re-processed supply items. Updates staff on any new or retraining as necessary
12. Assists with and provides orientation of new staff or current staff and assists CNM with performance evaluations.
13. Monitors and documents results of biological / bowie-dick testing, temperature and time cycles and reports malfunctions; pulls sterile supplies if questionable.
14. Order supplies per inventory list in sterile processing and distribution area weekly.
15. Maintains and documents continuing education credits through attendance at hospital in-service programs and designated programs of education related to sterile processing and distribution.
16. Participates in hospital Quality Improvement program and department specific Quality Assurance programs via documentation of data and reports as appropriate.
17. Maintains a clean safe environment in the sterile processing area.
18. Manually cleans and then disinfects all flexible scopes pre-, inter- and post-endoscopy procedure.
19. Maintains appropriate inventory of all sterile supplies, instruments and equipment to meet OR schedule needs.
20. Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors in interacting with others that is courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful resulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.
