The Assistant Emergency Nursing Supervisor supports the Emergency Nursing Supervisor in overseeing the daily operations of the emergency nursing team. This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary emergency nurse with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The assistant supervisor helps ensure high standards of patient care, staff accountability, and operational efficiency, while fostering a positive, team-oriented environment.
We are seeking to fill three (3) Assistant Supervisor positions, two for the daytime and one for the overnight.
Key Responsibilities :
- Serve as a leadership extension of the Emergency Nursing Supervisor to support emergency nursing team oversight.
- Act as a point of contact for day-to-day issues when the Emergency Nursing Supervisor is unavailable.
- Assist in coordinating daily staffing assignments and adjustments to maintain adequate hospital coverage.
- Support the tracking and management of PTO, sick time, and call-outs, escalating patterns or concerns to the Supervisor.
- Help ensure nursing staff adhere to hospital protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Review nursing documentation and provide feedback on accuracy, completeness, and quality of care.
- Assist in onboarding, training, and mentoring new emergency nursing staff.
- Monitor and promote a collaborative, respectful, and professional team environment.
- Participate in conflict resolution, escalating serious issues to the Supervisor or Hospital Administrator as needed.
- Coordinate maintenance and cleanliness of nursing equipment and supply areas.
- Communicate policy updates and procedural changes to emergency staff under the direction of the Supervisor.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training and continuing education initiatives.
- Attend staff and department meetings as required, including representing the nursing team if the Supervisor is unavailable.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 2 years of veterinary emergency nursing experience requiredProven ability to lead and support a clinical team in a fast-paced, emergency settingStrong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to handle sensitive personnel matters with discretionDetail-oriented, proactive, and reliableAble to multi-task and prioritize effectivelyComfortable giving feedback and participating in staff developmentPrevious leadership or mentoring experience strongly preferredProficient with veterinary hospital systems (EMRs, scheduling, etc.)Working Conditions :
