The Instructional Librarian provides information literacy and research instruction that enhances and supports curricular courses across the College. The position works closely with faculty to develop ways the library can support projects, assignments, and courses both in-person and online. The Instructional Librarian assists students, faculty, staff, and community users with finding and evaluating a variety of resources and materials. This position serves as the primary cataloger for physical and digital library resources, delivers resource workshops to faculty and students, and performs routine circulation duties.
Responsibilities
- Assists at the circulation desk, including aiding library users in locating library materials, reference services and other required services
- Provides support to students in analyzing and understanding assignments and projects
- Conducts library orientation tours to familiarize patrons with library services and facilities
- Teaches classes about information resources and helps users evaluate search results
- Collaborates with faculty to design and deliver engaging instructional sessions, both in-person and online, using a variety of instructional strategies and emerging technologies; services include virtual reality (VR) instruction, artificial intelligence integration, and educational escape room creation
- Monitors trends in creative and immersive technologies and makes recommendation to the Director of Library Services; works with library administration to facilitate and integrate new technologies, equipment, and services into the library program
- Assists in collection development management by reviewing, evaluating and recommending new materials as well as evaluating and weeding materials for disposal
- Catalogs library materials in all formats to assure maximum accessibility and usefulness
- Participates in the creation and updating of library policies and procedures; communicates and interprets library policy as delegated by the Director
- Maintains records and statistics and submits reports as required
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university.
Preferred : Academic library experience.
Two (2) years full-time professional experience in a library setting.
