Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant provides clinical and clerical support to neurologists, neuropsychologists, social workers, and the Alzheimer's Association liaison within a multidisciplinary neurodegenerative clinic. This role is integral to ensuring smooth clinic operations, patient flow, and coordinated care for individuals and families navigating cognitive and neurodegenerative conditions. The Medical Assistant assists the patient care team in implementing individualized care plans, supporting diagnostic and treatment processes, and providing education and reassurance to patients and caregivers. This position requires strong organizational skills, clinical competence, and compassion when working with patients and families affected by memory loss, dementia, and related disorders.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare exam rooms, obtain vital signs, document patient information, and assist with neurological and cognitive testing as directed.
- Support neurologists and neuropsychologists with diagnostic workflows, including preparing materials for neuropsychological assessments and tracking follow-up needs.
- Collaborate with social workers and the Alzheimer's Association liaison to coordinate resources, patient education, and caregiver support.
- Facilitate patient flow by scheduling, preparing records, and ensuring seamless communication between providers.
- Document clinical interactions and assist with EMR management to ensure accurate and timely records.
- Provide patient and family education on clinic processes, follow-up steps, and available community resources.
- Monitor supplies and equipment needed for cognitive assessments, neurological exams, and patient care.
- Perform back-office functions such as phone triage, message routing, and prior authorization support.
- Maintain sensitivity to the needs of patients with cognitive decline and their caregivers, offering support, reassurance, and respectful communication.
- Perform duties under the supervision of a licensed clinician, adhering to clinical standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications :
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.Current certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.Previous experience in neurology, geriatrics, or cognitive disorders preferred but not required.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work compassionately with patients experiencing cognitive and behavioral changes.Proficiency with EMR systems and basic office software.Education :
HS Diploma : High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)Other : Completion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California. (Must present diploma within 90 days)OR Completion of Sutter Health on-the-job training equivalent to one yearCertification & Licensure : BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Typical Experience : 1 year of recent relevant experience.
Pay Range is $32.68 to $40.85 / hour
