Detailed Description

The Assistant / Associate Director of Health Promotion works with a dynamic team to implement a comprehensive health promotion program. The role provides direct supervision to CHWP student interns and partners with campus stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based health and well-being programs for the USD community. The position leads primary wellness education efforts and represents Wellness on campus committees, promoting department initiatives at events and building cross-divisional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Health Promotion Program Management : enliven wellness across physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being; plan and implement evidence-based health promotion initiatives aligned with USD’s mission.
  • Collaborate with the CHWP Director to develop and implement programs meeting USD student needs; partner with Athletics, Fraternity / Sorority Life, Residential Education, identity / affinity centers, and other campus groups.
  • Provide leadership and advising to Health Promotion Interns; recruit, train and assess peer educators; support collaborations with peer educators in alignment with USD values.
  • Lead wellness education activities, including presentations, workshops, discussions, and social media campaigns; support the Toreros THRIVE Together Integrated Wellness class; coordinate events at the Palomar Health Student Wellness Center teaching kitchen.
  • Represent Student Wellness at events for prospective families and other university functions; foster relationships within Student Affairs and across divisions; serve on campus committees.
  • Evaluate programs with the CHWP Director and develop summary reports.

Additional Responsibilities (Associate Level)

  • Develop wellness training for incoming students; manage presentation requests and track outreach; lead health promotion sessions for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversee CHWP Program Coordinator with online wellness training modules; collaborate with vendors to resolve technical and compliance issues.
  • Support USD Wellness Ambassador program; supervise CHWP Mental Health / Behavioral Health GAs and interns; enforce unit policies and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Advise the Associated Student Government’s Wellness Representative; participate in marketing and web management for health promotion materials.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications (Assistant Level) :

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Higher Education or a closely related field
  • Two years of experience in health promotion or related field
  • Experience supervising student peer educators or student leaders
  • Minimum Qualifications (Associate Level) :

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Higher Education or a closely related field
  • Three or more years in health promotion or related field
  • Two or more years supervising student peer educators or student leaders
  • Performance Expectations – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : knowledge of best practices in health promotion for college populations; strong written skills; ability to handle confidential information with good judgment; teamwork and collaboration; proficiency with Google Suite and Canva; ability to manage multiple projects; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; adaptability to evolving work situations.

    Salary & Benefits

    $5,720 - $6,219 per month; excellent benefits. USD offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, and on-campus fitness centers.
