Pay Range $93,090 - $113,988 (J01.2) This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Job Description

We have an opening for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) Accountant to join our team. In this role you will ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) Order 474. 2A and LLNL's NMC&A Plan by performing Special Nuclear Material (SNM) inventories and resolving discrepancies. This role is critical to maintaining safeguards for nuclear material, enabling the Laboratory to meet its mission of national security. This position supports the NMC&A Project within the Security Organization.

You will :

  • Conduct data analysis to identify and resolve inventory issues related to the identity, control, and accounting of nuclear materials. Define and implement solutions to ensure compliance with DOE and LLNL requirements.
  • Administer and ensure accurate transaction and inventory reporting to the National Nuclear Material Management and Safeguards System (NMMSS). Validate and resolve discrepancies in reporting transactions entered in the Local Area Network Material Accounting System (LANMAS) accounting system.
  • Provide information and guidance in response to inquiries requiring research and interpretation of policies and procedures for nuclear materials, sealed sources, Tamper Indicating Devices (TIDs), and material accounting network computing resources.
  • Coordinate, interact and determine priorities, schedules, and other delivery requirements with coworkers, MC&A management, NNSA, DOE complex-wide sites, Material Balance Representatives, and programmatic contacts on NMC&A matters, including reports and records.
  • Review and coordinate programmatic plans and forms to authorize shipment, receipt, and transfer of Special Nuclear Material (SNM). Ensure transactions comply with DOE Order 474.2A and the NMC&A Plan, identify discrepancies, and recommend approval actions.
  • Conduct assessments, inspections, present findings to management, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement solutions for inventory and procedural discrepancies.
  • Assist in meeting information systems security requirements by supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems to ensure data integrity. Provide recommendations on policy and procedural practices related to information systems security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree, in security or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and assess the impact of orders, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with DOE / LLNL standards.
  • Analytical skills to resolve inventory discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting of nuclear material transactions.
  • Experience in accounting of assets with attention to detail to maintain the integrity of inventory records and systems.
  • Experience conducting self-assessments and participating in audits for a specific area within a security discipline.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision, to achieve long-term goals and objectives.
  • Qualifications We Desire :

  • Knowledge of LLNL / DOE practices, policies, and security principles, including regulatory requirements for a specific security discipline.
