The Data Engineer IV is a senior technical leader responsible for architecting and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions across cloud and hybrid environments. This role emphasizes Azure Data Fabric or similar cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Databricks) to enable unified data access, governance, and analytics across the enterprise. In addition to technical leadership, the Data Engineer IV mentors and develops the data engineering team, guiding engineers through architectural decisions, conducting hands-on training sessions, leading code reviews, and fostering a collaborative learning environment. The role champions best practices, supports career growth, and ensures the team stays aligned with evolving data strategies and technologies.
The Clayton Data Engineering team is responsible for data movement into the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Operational Data Stores, and between on-premises and cloud systems (AWS). The Data Engineer IV will develop advanced data infrastructure solutions that present information for decision making, sourcing data from a variety of internal and external sources, and will collaborate with team members across backgrounds and areas of expertise.
Primary Responsibilities
- Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications and break down complexities for business units and end users.
- Design, develop, and implement database architecture and data pipeline processes for migration / transformation of data into the data warehouse for reporting and analytical use.
- Participate in team code reviews, sprint planning and retrospectives, and CI / CD build and deploy processes.

Advanced Azure experienceBachelor or master degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Information ManagementProficiency in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and proceduresAbility to plan and accomplish goals from experience and judgmentStrong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact with a diverse group including executives and IT professionalsWillingness to learn new platforms and technologies and take on new tasksLead customer meetings to review work projects, scope, requirements, and resultsDesired Skills
Develop robust, scalable data solutions and data pipelines for analysis; enable faster data consumptionDesign, develop, test, implement, and maintain automated data pipelines and processing jobs using ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, StarQuest, AWS Glue, AWS Migration Service, Azure Data Factory)Design and maintain flattened, relational, and dimensional data modelsPerform root cause analysis to improve processes and data qualityProvide documentation for Data Engineering processes, pipelines, and systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills; translate requirements into technical specificationsExperience in JIRA and Agile methodologies (preferred)10+ years of experience with large-scale data pipelines and ETL tools; 10+ years with SQL Server or Postgres; 10+ years of SQL experienceExperience in one programming language (C#, Python, Scala, Java, or R)Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)Experience with source control (e.g., Git)Understanding of data modeling, data quality, and data cleansing principlesMentor new Data Engineering team membersWhy Clayton Homes
