Responsibilities Work in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit of an acute care hospital Unit has 54 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 5-6 on nights Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow Night shifts are 12 hours, 3 shifts per week (1900-0700), with every other weekend and holiday rotation Required to float in rotation with staff; if floated outside general unit, will work only within competency alongside a trained nurse Epic is the charting system used House-wide telemetry monitoring; RNs do not read strips Heparin drip titration is required, and experience with this is necessary Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24 / 7; charge nurses do not typically take patient assignments Nurse aides / patient care techs assist on the unit, with night ratios of 1 : 10-12 Orientation includes two days with an educator and preceptor, including computer and unit-specific training No call or standby required No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate Requirements Active IL RN license or proof of application initiated Minimum of 1 year of recent RN experience BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required Previous dedicated neuro unit experience required Level 1 trauma experience required Heparin gtt experience required Previous travel RN experience required; first time travelers are not accepted Must pass a drug screening for all panels Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-617249.
