Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Histotechnologist (HTL) / Histology Technician (HT) for a 13 week travel assignment in Quincy, IL. Required Qualifications :
- One year of recent experience as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histology Technician (HT)
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
Preferred Qualifications :
National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certificationsOther certifications or licenses may be required for this positionSummary :
Histotechnologists (HTL) / Histology Technicians (HT) prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination to assist pathologists in diagnosing diseases. They process, embed, section, and stain specimens using specialized techniques to ensure high-quality slides for analysis. This role requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and adherence to laboratory safety and quality standards.
Essential Work Functions :
Receive, process, and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examinationAccurately differentiate between normal, reactive, infectious, and malignant cellular changesPerform embedding, cutting, staining, and slide preparation using specialized histology techniquesOperate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, and automated staining machinesVerify specimen accuracy and ensure proper labeling and documentationFollow quality control protocols to maintain consistency and reliability in slide preparationAssist pathologists and laboratory staff by preparing slides for special stains and immunohistochemistry proceduresMaintain compliance with laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirementsPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standardsRequired Essential Skills :
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is requiredAbility to read / comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical / Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing / pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and / or using department equipment.Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
