The cashier provides fast and friendly service to customers, assists them with questions and request. Operates a cash register and the duties which correspond. Package product, work with drive-up and / or carry-out. Replenishes product as needed.

The cashier is accountable and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations; Service Managers. The position does not report to any other positions.

Primary duties and responsibilities include providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, smiling and greeting customers, assisting customers, answering the telephone, working with co-workers as a team, operating cash register accurately, redeeming promotional coupons, stocking, facing, rotating merchandise, cleaning shelves, communicating clearly, reviewing weekly store ad, keeping register area clean, comparing totals on cash register, giving cash refunds, understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures, maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines, and adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include assisting store management, knowing code dates on perishable items, changing register tape and ribbons, assisting in other areas of store, and performing other job related duties and special projects.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include the ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions, do arithmetic calculations, understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, and write identifying information.

Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently, up to 10 pounds of force constantly, vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision, and the ability to perform various physical activities.

Working conditions include exposure to temperature extremes, possible dampness, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, exposure to chemicals and solvents, and a fast paced work environment.

Equipment used to perform the job includes pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, trash compactor, fork lift, calculator, telephone, intercom, cardboard compactor, copier, and fax.
