Summary : The Director of Development and Communications is responsible for building and leading a comprehensive development and communications program that advances Hunter Health Clinics (HHC) mission and strengthens community impact. This leader will guide fundraising, annual giving, grants, and volunteer engagement while also shaping the organizations external and internal communications. With a focus on storytelling, relationship-building, and strategic growth, the Director will ensure that HHC has the resources and visibility needed to serve our community. In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) and leadership, the Director of Development and Communications is also responsible for maintaining compliance with all federal grants, HRSA, HIPAA, and HHC policies and procedures.
Essential Functions :
Development & Fundraising
- Designs, implements, and evaluates a multi-faceted fundraising strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
- Leads the continued development of the department, building systems and processes to support sustainable growth.
- Oversees grant writing, reporting, and administration, ensuring compliance and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Develops and coordinates a robust volunteer program that engages community members in meaningful service.
- Partners with the CAO, CEO and Board of Directors to strengthen donor relationships and fundraising capacity.
Communications & Storytelling
Leads external communications strategy to increase awareness, visibility, and engagement with HHCs mission.Develops compelling stories that highlight the impact of HHCs work and inspire donor and community support.Manages marketing campaigns and communication channels, including HHC website, social media, and newsletters to ensure consistent and mission-aligned messaging.Strengthens internal communications to promote organizational culture, transparency, and staff engagement.Leadership & Administration
Assumes responsibility for the financial management of the department by developing and maintaining department budgets.Supervises department staff, contractors, and freelance talent, including hiring, providing guidance and direction, training, evaluating performance, initiating corrective action or disciplinary action and other personnel actions.Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.Performs all other duties as assigned.Qualifications :
Bachelors degree required. Masters Degree and / or CFRE preferred. Comparable professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, development, grant management, and / or communications is required; experience within healthcare or nonprofit sectors is preferred.Demonstrated success in individual and institutional fundraising, including grant writing and donor cultivation is required.Proven experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems and procedures preferred.Skills :
