Registered Nurse (RN) Med Surg Oncology Dept

Work hours : Full Time (7P-7A) 36 hour work week – Rotating Weekends / Holidays

Robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and engaged leadership team

Fast-Paced, high-volume Oncology Department (35 bed) . Patients are admitted to this floor for multiple diseases such as Leukemia, Sepsis, Lymphoma, Melanoma, Breast, Kidney / Pancreatic Cancers, pain management and med / surg overflow.

This is a mixed acuity unit. You will have the opportunity to build your skills caring for higher acuity PCU patients with a lower patient ratio.

Here’s What You Need

Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program or Nursing Diploma Required

BSN preferred

One-year experience as a clinical nurse, or completion of an RN residency program.

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

Current BLS (required) –prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.

CPI training within 90 days of hire (required)

2+ years of inpatient oncology RN experience and charge / preceptor skills (preferred)

Successful completion of the ONS - Chemotherapy / Biotherapy Certificate within 6 months of hire required

OCN - Oncology Certified Nurse within 2 years of hire preferred

What You Will Do

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process

Assesses the patient

Plans the care of the patient

Intervenes as appropriate

Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions

Incorporates age specific safety / infection control measures into patient care.

Initiates action to meet patient and / or significant others need for information

Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
