Deckorators, a brand of UFP Industries, is a leader in outdoor living products, specializing in composite decking, railing, and accessories.

Our Buffalo, New York plant is the newest and flagship location of our proven and growing Surestone technology. This facility is a state-of-the-art extrusion and polymer-based manufacturing site, expanding our ability to deliver high-performance products that combine beauty, durability, and innovation.

Job Summary

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and coordination of plant operations, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, safety, and productivity objectives. This role will oversee daily operations, lead production and maintenance teams, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

As this is a new facility, the Plant Manager will play a critical role in plant startup and launch activitiesincluding staffing, implementing policies and procedures, establishing production systems, and developing a strong safety and quality culture from day one.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership for plant operations, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and profitability goals are consistently achieved.

Support the successful startup of the Buffalo facility, including equipment installation, commissioning, layout of operations, and transition to steady-state production.

Recruit, hire, develop, and coach a high-performing operations team, including production supervisors, maintenance, and support staff.

Develop and maintain a master production and shipping schedule, coordinating activities between shifts and departments to ensure on-time delivery.

Oversee plant operations, ensuring proper staffing levels, training programs, and minimal downtime.

Establish and enforce plant-level policies, procedures, and quality standards to support efficient and compliant operations.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, yield, scrap, costs, and safety metrics; initiate corrective actions when needed.

Manage plant financial performance, including monitoring expenses, reviewing P&L results, and meeting budget targets.

Partner with leadership on capital expenditure planning and process improvement initiatives.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and company HR policies and procedures.

Actively participate in the plant Safety Committee and foster a strong culture of safety awareness.

Prepare and deliver required reports on plant performance, safety, and financials.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Minimum 5 years of progressive operations or production management experience, preferably in extrusion, polymers, plastics, or related manufacturing.

At least 2 years in a leadership role managing teams in a plant or production environment.

Proven ability to lead new plant startups or major production expansions preferred.

Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing, production scheduling, and quality improvement methods.

Hands-on understanding of maintenance and equipment reliability practices.

Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and analyzing P&L results.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ERP systems knowledge required.

Forklift operator certification (or ability to obtain).

Working knowledge of shipping logistics and truck capacities a plus.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Pay Range : $85,000 - $115,000 annually dependent on experience.

Bonus / Incentive Pay : The percentage of incentive compensation that may be earned varies based on the customer account classification and is calculated based on collected gross profit.
