Sentara Norfolk General Hospital - Vascular and Interventional Radiology Department
Reports To : Procedure Supervisor
Schedule : Four 9-hour shifts (07 : 30-17 : 00), On-call 2-3 times weekly (17 : 00-07 : 00) and every 3rd weekend
Position Summary :
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) to join our Vascular and Interventional Radiology team. The RCIS will support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, ensuring the highest level of patient care and procedural support. This role plays a key part in image-guided interventions, working closely with physicians, nurses, and technologists.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist in the performance of vascular and interventional radiology procedures including angiograms, stent placements, embolizations, thrombolysis, and image-guided biopsies.
Operate and maintain imaging and monitoring equipment during procedures.
Monitor patient vital signs and administer contrast agents under physician direction.
Ensure sterile technique and maintain a safe procedural environment.
Accurately document procedure details in the electronic medical record.
Participate in on-call rotation (2-3 evenings per week, 17 : 00-07 : 00, and every 3rd weekend) to provide emergency support for after-hours procedures.
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Maintain up-to-date certifications and continuing education relevant to the role.
Qualifications :
Required : Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential through CCI or equivalent (e.g., ARRT with Interventional Radiography certification).
Preferred : Experience in vascular and interventional radiology or a cath lab setting.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy and interventional procedures.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Excellent communication, critical thinking, and team collaboration skills.
Working Conditions :
Exposure to radiation and bodily fluids in a procedural setting.
Ability to wear lead protection for extended periods.
Must be able to lift or position patients and equipment as needed.
