Title : CAD Technician

Duration : 12 months

Shift Times : 7am-5pm

Location : Indianapolis , IN 46077

Pay rate : $35 - $50 / hr.

SUMMARY :

  • The CAD Technician is responsible to draft drawings to support a large research facility with a complex equipment infrastructure.
  • The support could include electrical, mechanical, site, and architectural drawings to support project execution and equipment installations.
  • The CAD Technician will also take internal customer requirements and translate those into drawings to be used for developing work scopes and quotations.
  • The qualified candidate must communicate and collaborate well within a diverse working environment which includes scientists, lab personnel, contractors, managers, and internal skilled craftsman personnel. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a group as necessary is essential for success in this position.

KEY REPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide CAD drafting and design support for Project Managers and Engineers during the planning, design and construction of facility projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to translate mark-ups into drawings, check and plot drawings, correctly label final working drawings, and update contract drawings and specifications.
  • Perform CAD services in accordance with company standards.
  • Assist in field activities to gather project information.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate work with Project Managers, Engineers and Surveyors.
  • Interacts with building occupants, researchers, maintenance, operations, and technicians to scope architectural needs and source quotations for small projects and engineering work orders.
  • Manage online drawing directory and physical drawing files.
  • Work with project managers and engineers to incorporate as built documentation into the facility drawings.
  • Gain in depth understanding of current building systems and infrastructures to properly propose required layouts for capital improvements and new equipment installations.
  • Provide technical support for implementing internal specifications.
  • Provide working knowledge of building and engineering codes as applicable.
  • Understand and implement EHS&S standards into designs.
  • Other duties as become necessary to support company goals and / or projects.

    • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 1+ years of relevant engineering design experience in an R&D or industrial facility.
  • Proficient in engineering / facility CAD drafting and the latest software including AutoCAD.
  • Experience with design of civil / site and infrastructure projects.
  • Engineering or Surveying CAD experience is preferred.
  • High level of accuracy / thoroughness, attention to detail and speed.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational and work coordination skills, and interpersonal skills are critical to role success.

    • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Understanding infrastructure and building systems including but not limited to site utilities, security, building management, R&D operations, environmental, insectary, R&D sciences, greenhouses, and a vast variety of research laboratories.
  • Individuals must be self-motivated, have demonstrated personal initiative, have excellent organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Interested in learning new skills, gaining knowledge of business processes and investigation new technologies to support cutting-edge projects.
  • Safety certifications / qualifications preferred.

    • EDUCATION :

  • Two-year diploma in design / drafting with CAD training from a recognized institution with 2+ years proven CAD drafting / design experience or equivalent.

    • TECHNICAL SKILLS :

  • Must have the ability to interpret technical vendor literature (i.e. Installation, Maintenance and Operation manuals) and transfer this information independently and effectively to critical work processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD, AutoCad preferred.
  • A working knowledge of piping and instrument drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment drawings, and similar.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems : i.e. Maximo / eMaint.
  • Use of the standard Microsoft applications - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Great time management skills including the ability to manage a substantial workload.
  • Interpersonal skills for developing a client base and working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and desire to expand knowledge.

  • Ability to work in a team environment to deliver per department / personal objectives.
  • Strong ability in listening and communication, including consulting by telephone.
  • Comfortable working with colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.
  • Focused on delivering effective, usable results.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, confidence, and ability to form good working relationships and negotiate effectively with internal and external contacts.

    • MUST HAVES :

  • Any specific skills, requirements or experience you want in a candidate : AS Engineering or Computer Aid Design or Certification CAD Design; Entry Level 1+ yrs experience; Experience AutoDesk (AutoCAD) software required.
