Role Overview
The Mechanical Liaison Engineer serves as the critical bridge between mechanical design engineering, manufacturing, and quality control for our power distribution equipment. This role combines hands-on manufacturing support with design responsibilities, ensuring manufacturability while contributing to product development.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Interface
- Provide real-time technical support to manufacturing teams during assembly operations
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues on the production floor and implement solutions
- Review engineering designs for manufacturability and provide feedback to design teams
- Support prototype builds and new product introductions
- Assist in quality control inspections and resolution of mechanical non-conformances
Design Support
Support mechanical design activities for switchgear and power distribution equipmentCreate and modify 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD softwarePerform basic mechanical calculations and design analysisAssist in developing mechanical design standards and best practicesSupport custom engineering projects and design modificationsProcess Improvement
Develop manufacturing work instructions and assembly proceduresCreate and maintain technical documentation including assembly drawings and process sheetsSupport continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiencyAssist in implementation of design for manufacturing (DFM) principlesHelp establish mechanical assembly standards and quality proceduresCross-Functional Collaboration
Interface between design engineering teams and manufacturing operationsWork closely with electrical engineers to ensure proper electro-mechanical integrationCoordinate with quality teams to resolve mechanical design and manufacturing issuesSupport field service teams with technical guidance when neededCommunicate design changes and updates across departmentsRequirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field2-5 years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineeringProficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly sheet metal fabricationKnowledge of industry standards (UL, NEMA) preferredStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively in both office and manufacturing environmentsPreferred Qualifications
Experience with power distribution equipment or electrical enclosuresKnowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication processesFamiliarity with PLM / PDM systemsUnderstanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)Experience with custom-engineered productsKnowledge of lean manufacturing principlesPrevious liaison experience between engineering and manufacturingUnderstanding of quality systems and inspection processesThis role provides excellent exposure to both design engineering and manufacturing, creating pathways for advancement into senior engineering roles, manufacturing leadership, or technical project management positions.
