Role Description
As a Co-op on the HQ Accounting Ops Team, you will be a part of a unique role and get to experience Accounting and Finance as well as Operations. You will be involved with monthly financial close and learn our close processes and gain skills in performing financial analysis of results. You will learn the importance of keeping complete and accurate financial statements and be able to identify inconsistencies or errors. You will also gain experience with data compilation and reporting as we review customer level revenue details for more insight. You will also get a great understanding of our internal processes that ensure our customers' accounts are updated properly in relation to customer payments and credits and gain insight into the Bad Debt process. We work in a fast-paced environment so you will also gain skills in organization and multi-tasking.
What are some interesting problems the student will work on?
We work in multiple systems to serve our customers, and we have a large volume of customers all dealing with various issues. You will have to use analytical thinking to get to the bottom of the issue, know what system to use, and apply the correct resolution. As some operational processes are highly manual you will need to review the financials in great detail to identify any errors that may have occurred. For example : if you see a large drop (or increase) in monthly recurring revenue you would pull customer level information in order to understand the change. Further questioning could either help explain the variance or point out that possible billing errors were made and need to be corrected (in the general ledger and on the customers next invoice).
Where can this student make an impact?
We are excited to hear your ideas! We value new perspectives that will help with problem solving. Giving ideas and asking questions can lead to process improvements that have an impact on internal and external customers.
