Location BBC Bronson Battle Creek Title OB Tech PRN - Bronson Battle Creek Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and according to established policies and procedures, assists with surgical procedures as a scrub member of the obstetrical / surgical team. Prepares instruments and maintains a clean and safe obstetrical / surgical environment. Performs a variety of clerical and basic patient care duties and assists staff in maintaining efficient and effective operations. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6-12 months of experience required Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan, Certified Scrub Tech or completion of Certified Scrub Tech program preferred (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan)

- Ability to adapt to shiftwork Work which produces high levels of mental / visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
- Performs the duties of a scrub nurse for assigned obstetrical cases. Reviews assigned procedures and ensures that all instruments and equipment are available and properly prepared according to established standards and individual Obstetrician's preference. Assembles surgical trays and ensures that all equipment is properly assembled and in good working order. Scrubs and sets up sterile table; assists in accurately counting all instruments, needles, sharps and sponges; assists with gowning and gloving, passing instruments, sutures and other equipment as requested and in anticipation of needs.
- Prepares the C / S room and LDRs / Delivery room for deliveries and procedures.
- Assists the Physicians / CNMs and nursing personnel before, during and after deliveries.
- Tears down the C / S, LDR, and Delivery room following procedures and deliveries, and assists housekeeping with cleaning as needed. Cleans equipment and returns to appropriate location. Returns instruments for cleaning and sterilization. Returns unused supplies to the appropriate places.
- Checks, orders and restocks supplies, inventories, instruments and equipment in appropriate areas. Rotates stock, stocks patient rooms, supply rooms, procedure carts, medication room, and utility rooms.
- Picks up and delivers specimens, equipment, meal trays, blood products and stat pharmacy orders.
- Cleans, cares for, and is able to utilize the computers and Central Fetal Monitoring systems in the Obstetrical area.
- Sorts and files reports.
- Answers telephones, takes and relays messages, serves as a unit communication source.
- Processes orders for X-Ray, laboratory, and other diagnostic and therapeutic areas. Enters order, admission, transfer and discharge information into the computer.
- Transcribes provider's orders to unit records and files. Maintains patient medication records and Kardex system. Graphs vital signs. Processes and maintains patient charts.
- Answers patient call lights, takes patient V.S.s and assists with patient hygiene as directed by an RN or LPN.
