Position Overview

The Senior Counsel will provide legal counsel and guidance to assigned business segments, focusing on Federal Power Act compliance, power marketing and transmission, service agreements, regulatory compliance, and litigation. The role serves as a liaison with outside counsel, evaluates legal strategy, builds client relationships, and offers legal and business expertise across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on day-to-day business operations across business segments.
  • Focus on Federal Power Act compliance, rate filings, wholesale power markets, regional transmission, and large load customer service agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with FERC regulatory requirements and NERC reliability standards.
  • Lead regulatory litigation and coordinate with outside counsel on matters assigned by General Counsel or company management.
  • Assess legal data to determine advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits.
  • Develop and maintain effective client relationships and provide legal and business expertise when dealing with a wide range of parties.

Qualifications

  • J.D. and state bar license required; licensed to practice law in Washington State or ability to become licensed in Washington.
  • Experience with FERC regulation of the electric industry, wholesale power markets, and transmission functions preferred.
  • Background in public companies and compliance is a plus.
  • Aptitude for anticipating how legal / policy trends may affect future business models.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, and the ability to resolve complex legal issues.
  • Proficient negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compensation

    Hiring Range : $161,720 – $215,895 (annually). Full salary range : $125,183 – $270,070.

    Work Arrangement

    Hybrid work options are available. The successful candidate will work at the Spokane, Washington headquarters at least three days per week, including Mondays and Tuesdays, with additional days determined by the manager.
