Overview
Under supervision, assists and supports the General Support Maintenance Division, and learns to repair and maintain all types of deficiencies in the City of Beaufort General Support / Facilities Maintenance Division. Performs field work that may include light construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing projects. This job classification is the entry level in the Associate series. Incumbents learn to perform the full range of facility maintenance and repair functions and are expected to advance to the higher level within a reasonable period.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or certified equivalent supplemented by two years' experience in facility maintenance and / or electronics. IMSA School Certification Program and Work Zone Safety Program Level 1 Traffic Seminars and Workshops preferred but not required. Must be proficient in the use of equipment necessary to perform tasks with the ability to work independently.
Working Conditions
Incumbents may be exposed to a variety of hazardous and / or unpleasant field conditions, including wet, rainy, cold, or hot weather, and traffic. Work requires physical exertion such as prolonged bending, stooping, and lifting, and driving vehicles / equipment for long periods. Knowledge of electrical theory and practice, low voltage systems, lighting, and control circuits. Familiarity with materials, methods and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electric and electronic control devices; safe driving practices; and safe work practices related to electrical and electronic components. Ability to install, maintain and repair basic electric or electronic control devices; perform minor electrical installation and repair; read and interpret electrical or electronic schematic diagrams; troubleshoot basic electrical circuits; maintain simple records; learn installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal and highway lighting systems; and establish cooperative working relationships with others.
Additional Requirements and Information
Possession of a valid South Carolina Driver's License is required within 30 days of hire. Appointees to this class series will be subject to mandatory drug testing prior to beginning work; incumbents will be subject to mandatory drug and / or alcohol testing on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis. Ability to pass law enforcement security clearance within 60 days of hire. Completion of International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification within a period determined at hiring, subject to certification availability.
