Junior Construction Estimator

Overview

Stevens Engineers & Constructors has an excellent opportunity for an entry level and highly motivated Junior Estimator to join our Cleveland Operations Team, based out of our Middleburg Hts., Ohio office. This individual will assist the Cleveland Operations Team in the bidding process, including preparation of new estimates. The Junior Estimator will create, maintain, and distribute departmental documentation including bid invites and client proposals, and will learn to transfer project information accurately and completely. The role mainly entails helping Lead Estimators, Senior Estimators or Project Managers make profitable and competitive bids by contributing cost information for construction and maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will be client-focused and able to work well independently and as part of the Project Team.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Lead Estimator, Senior Estimators or Project Managers to develop estimating skills
• Read plans and prepare quantity takeoffs and trade bid lists
• Understand the job scope process including site logistics, unforeseen and existing conditions, and constructability issues, and understand costing
• Develop and maintain productive subcontractor relationships
• Provide support to Project Manager and Senior Estimators to further develop skills
• Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate
• Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoffs and soliciting pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors
• Assemble information to be submitted with the proposal (e.g., project organization chart, resumes, unit prices, safety information, price breakouts, quantities, schedules and insurance information)
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for the estimate, including price information from suppliers
• Support other Estimating Unit personnel as required (computer work, preparation of discipline estimates, etc.)
• Research, negotiate and prepare purchase orders and subcontracts for awarded projects, including insurance requirements
• Prepare internal job setup documentation (Award of Contract form, code of accounts, quantity sheet, copy of estimate)
• Participate in pre-job meetings with project management personnel
