Overview

Finance Director – Americas role with a global tech-led business. This position offers a genuine opportunity to shape the finance function and build a high-performing team across the Americas. The role is hybrid (3 days in the office per week) and based in or near the Chicago area.

Base pay and compensation

Base pay range : $180,000.00 / yr - $200,000.00 / yr. Compensation includes bonus and benefits as applicable. This range is provided by The Consultancy Group (London). Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and consolidate finance operations across the Americas.
  • Build, restructure, and engage a geographically dispersed team.
  • Drive finance business partnering, embedding finance alongside business units to make the function more commercial and strategic.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to regional business leaders and ex-founders; build trust and support their growth.
  • Deliver timely and accurate reporting, including ad hoc, stakeholder-driven requirements (with flexible, non-fixed reporting cycles).
  • Prepare the business for a potential sale (not a short-term exit role; expected to stay post-transaction).
  • Enhance financial processes and reporting cadence to reduce reactivity and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee change management, team resourcing, and adaptation to new business needs.
  • Be hands-on, agile, and willing to roll up sleeves.
  • Partner with HR and other business leaders for team development and change initiatives.
  • Demonstrable experience in a Head of Finance / Finance Director or senior business partnering role.
  • Experience in building and leading small teams; process design, automation and / or transformation skills.
  • Team building and leadership across dispersed or virtual teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive business outcomes.
  • Experience preparing for or managing through a sale process (M&A / PE exit) is a plus, but not essential.

  • Qualifications

  • CPA essential; MBA potentially considered.
  • Foundational training in Big 4 / Public Accounting before moving in-house (minimum 4–5 years in-house experience).
  • This is a real opportunity to shape finance within a larger, more complex business. Potential candidates may be currently in a smaller CFO / Startup role or serving as second in command to a Senior Finance Director in a larger organization, and who are ready to run their own team.

    Location and work arrangement

    You must be based in the Chicago area or within an easy commute. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office per week.
