Laboratory Assistant - Technical Services HV-CS-9677

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS : Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

Please Note : The successful candidate must take and pass the Rensselaer County Civil Service exam for Laboratory Assistant, when offered, and be reachable on the Laboratory Assistant list to qualify for permanent appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Graduation from High School (or possession of an equivalency diploma) and two years of full-time paid experience working in a particular kind of scientific, medical, or technical laboratory. -or-

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree in the scientific, medical, or technical field.

An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in the above criteria.

DUTIES AND / OR RESPONSIBILITIES : The Laboratory Assistant performs work under direct supervision of the Coordinator of Technical Services, or his / her designee, with latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the assignments in accordance with defined procedures. The Laboratory Assistant reports to the Coordinator of Technical Services and performs the following duties :

This is a 40-hour / week, 12-month position with an hourly rate of $ 24.90. Assignments may be on the HVCC North campus, Malta, NY and / or on the HVCC main campus, Troy, NY.
