The CoreAI Studio & Outbound Product team seeks a Principal UX Design Engineer to build world‑class demos and craft compelling stories that showcase Microsoft’s most advanced AI capabilities. This role demands a generalist who combines deep technical expertise with masterful storytelling to bring cutting‑edge AI research and products to life through high‑impact demonstrations that drive product‑market fit, accelerate growth, and push customer imagination about what’s possible with AI.

You will translate the latest research breakthroughs and product capabilities into compelling demonstrations, build interactive experiences that help developers understand AI possibilities, and create the technical narratives that define how the world experiences Microsoft AI. The ideal candidate has extensive customer‑facing experience and a proven track record of building viral demos that drive measurable adoption and inspire customers to envision what they can build.
Responsibilities
- Build flagship demonstrations and interactive experiences that showcase CoreAI, Azure AI Platform, and GitHub capabilities at major industry events and customer engagements.
- Lead the creation of high‑impact demos that translate cutting‑edge AI research and product features into compelling developer experiences for real‑world use cases.
- Simplify complex AI concepts and showcase frontier capabilities through accessible, engaging demonstrations that push customer imagination.
- Design and execute demo experiences that drive product‑market fit, accelerate platform growth, and inspire developers to build innovative solutions.
- Work directly with customers to understand use cases and build compelling proof‑of‑concept demonstrations that solve real business problems and expand their vision of what’s possible.
- Create interactive demos and digital experiences that help enterprise customers and digital‑native companies envision AI implementation and imagine new applications.
- Build reference samples and demonstration patterns that can be replicated across customer engagements to drive consistent product adoption and growth.
- Partner with AI‑native companies and strategic customers to build joint demonstrations that showcase frontier possibilities and drive ecosystem growth.
- Mentor other engineers on demo craft, storytelling techniques, and methods for simplifying complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Build relationships with developer communities, AI research labs, and technology partners through compelling technical content that pushes the boundaries of imagination.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design.OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design.OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).Portfolio exhibiting conceptual experience, a proven understanding of design and demo best practices, interactive experience, technical skills, and craftsmanship.5+ full‑stack development skills with expertise in modern programming languages (Python, JavaScript, C#, etc.), deep learning, and cloud platforms.Proven track record of using demos and storytelling to drive customer adoption, accelerate product‑market fit, and influence purchasing decisions.4+ years experience with Figma.Additional Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and / or government security screening requirements.Microsoft Cloud Background Check required upon hire and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications
Experience presenting complex technical concepts through live demonstrations to diverse audiences including developers, executives, and technical decision‑makers.Experience working directly with customers to understand use cases and translate requirements into compelling demonstrations that expand their vision of possibilities.Strong communication skills with ability to simplify frontier technologies for different audiences and contexts.Experience in developer relations, technical marketing, or customer‑facing engineering roles with a focus on showcasing frontier technologies.Deep understanding of AI / ML research landscape and product development with demonstrated ability to identify breakthrough insights and translate them into practical demonstrations.Experience decomposing research papers and product features, implementing novel techniques in demo‑ready formats that showcase frontier capabilities.Proven ability to build demonstrations that push the boundaries of customer imagination while maintaining production‑level polish and driving measurable business growth.Proven ability to rapidly prototype and build polished demos across multiple technology stacks and platforms.Demonstrated success simplifying complex concepts and creating technical content, demos, or samples that achieve viral adoption and measurable developer engagement.Salary
Product Design IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. In the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area the range is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year.
