The Workforce Development Direct Support Professional with Behavioral Support Component is under the supervision of the Program Manager / Program Director, and is responsible for planning and conducting lessons and activities for associates drawn from the Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) Plans / Person Centered Plans, who are eligible for services under the Behavior Management criteria. The Direct Support Professional plays an integral role in supporting associates to : utilize effective communication systems; develop positive relationships with others; become valued, contributing members of the community; work toward achievement of their life’s goals, and attain a true community-based, integrated, quality of life.
The Workforce Development Direct Support Professional with Behavioral Support Component is expected to become familiar with all of the associates he / she serves so that he / she can make valuable contributions to Productive and Personally Meaningful Life (PPML) / Individual PATH / Rehabilitation / Habilitation / Service Plans, Person-Centered Planning meetings and Circle of Support meetings. The DSPs with Behavioral Support are expected to be well-versed in Positive Behavioral Supports.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Provide small group and one-on-one training of individuals in specific job skills and general work behaviors.
Ensure that all assigned job duties are consistently completed according to employer standards and expectations.
Maintain regular communication with employers regarding their satisfaction with employee performance, work schedules and quality assurance.
Conduct job analysis in cooperation with employers.
Provide supervision and training to associates in community access skills.
Provide supervision and training to associates in self-advocacy and social / leisure skills.
Provide mobility training.
Assist associates in accessing a variety of community locations using company / personal vehicles / public transportation.
Effectively and consistently implement behavior support plans; encouraging and reinforcing positive replacement behaviors.
Consistently implement behavioral reinforcement plans to increase associate success.
Maintain conscientious, responsible level of supervision of associate behavior / safety at all times, including scheduled break, lunch and bus duty.
Demonstrate an understanding of the “big picture” and long-term outcomes for associates, with an understanding that an intensive intervention process may need to be implemented, rather than settling for a “quick fix”.
This position is currently scheduled at 35-37 hours per week. Typical projected work hours for this position are 7 : 45 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For this position, staff will have a 30 minute working lunch when actively supporting associates. A working lunch agreement will be on file. These hours and duties are subject to change.
Qualifications :
Experience in providing training / support to individuals with developmental disabilities a plus.
Must demonstrate a working knowledge of task analysis / assessment / positive behavior supports and clear written and verbal communication skills.
