Administrative And Accounting Support
This is responsible administrative and accounting support work for the Auditor / Treasurer's Office. Work involves performance of a variety of duties requiring judgment based on knowledge gained through experience, according to standard procedures or general rules. Works under supervision of the Auditor / Treasurer and Finance Director, but ordinarily proceeds on their own initiative and carries work to completion.
Greets and directs callers and visitors; answers varied inquiries; may explain policies and procedures. Composes, edits and prepares correspondence, reports, emails and other documents in accordance with standard policies. Prepares and maintains records of various documents submitted and issued. Maintains data privacy of information received and processed. Receives monies from other departments and verifies accuracy of receipts. Processes and receives tax payments and records in ledgers. Reconciles checks and bank statements. Assists customers with property statements and questions. Performs basic bookkeeping and accounting tasks, entering receipts and balancing monthly. Balances ditch system accounts and reconciles system cash balances. Compiles data for administrative analysis, questionnaires and public reports. Processes ditch administration and other mailings so that information and requests are received on time. Assists with election preparations and processing. Assists with processing of real estate documents. Performs other work as required. Responsible to observe all Watonwan County safety and health rules and to apply the principles of accident prevention in day-to-day duties.
Training and experience requires high school diploma or equivalent, with preference given for applicable post-secondary education. Requires accounting or bookkeeping, clerical and public contact / customer service experience or training. Knowledge, abilities and skills requires advanced clerical skills, including computer proficiency, keyboarding and filing. Considerable knowledge of department operations and organization, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a short period of time. Proficient skill in use of calculators, computers, financial / accounting software applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing, including Microsoft Excel and Word. Requires manual and finger dexterity to accurately and efficiently operate required equipment. Requires ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. Ability to process and maintain complex financial or other records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
