About Nine Lives Foundation

We are a nationally recognized nonprofit cat rescue and veterinary organization serving the entire Bay Area. Every year, we rescue over 1,000 at-risk cats, provide thousands of life-saving surgeries, and find loving, permanent homes for our feline friends. Our digital community—100k+ followers and growing—has been a driving force behind our success, and now we’re looking to take it to the next level.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Development and Executive Director, the Assistant Social Media & Marketing Manager will be the creative force behind Nine Lives’ online presence. This role isn’t just about posting—it’s about strategically building brand visibility, driving revenue through campaigns, and nurturing a loyal online community. You will work closely with our leadership team to connect our life-saving programs with the people who make them possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Growth & Community Building
  • Develop and execute strategies to significantly increase followers, engagement, and conversions across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and NextDoor.
  • Cultivate partnerships with influencers, local businesses, and advocates to amplify reach, adoption rates, and fundraising impact.
  • Content Creation & Calendar Management
  • Plan, produce, and publish high-quality, multi-format content (short-form video, photo, stories, long-form posts) that aligns with program, adoption, and clinic initiatives.
  • Maintain and present a rolling 60-day content calendar, ensuring alignment with fundraising, marketing, and awareness campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Development to integrate social media with email, direct mail, and peer-to-peer campaigns.
  • Create compelling copy and visuals that inspire donations, adoptions, volunteer sign-ups, and clinic appointments.

Community Engagement

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages daily, ensuring a consistent, warm, mission-aligned voice.
  • Proactively engage with followers to deepen loyalty and encourage advocacy.

    • Analytics & Optimization

  • Track and report on KPIs including reach, engagement, CTR, conversions, and follower growth.
  • Deliver monthly reports with insights and actionable recommendations to continuously improve performance.

    • Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of professional social media management for a nonprofit, mission-driven, or consumer brand.
  • Demonstrated success in growing large, engaged online communities and driving measurable campaign results.
  • Advanced skills in digital storytelling , marketing strategy, and performance analysis.
  • Proficiency with Canva, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Instagram Reels / TikTok, and basic video editing.
  • Strong writing and visual content creation skills with a keen eye for brand consistency.
  • Warm, creative, and highly organized.

    • Bonus Skills

  • Experience in animal welfare or shelter / rescue environment.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, or other professional editing tools.
  • A genuine love for cats and commitment to animal welfare.

  • Hybrid : Remote work with on-site visits in Redwood City for content capture.
