GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Occupational therapists provide practical advice and solutions to enable people to live full, satisfying, and independent lives. They use specialized skills in assessment and treatment; occupational therapists provide care to prevent injury or impairment, restore functional activity and enhance participation in daily life. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting physical and psychological assessments of residents and developing or following a treatment plan.
- Assessing the environments of residents and deciding what adjustments are needed.
- Developing physical rehabilitation programs to help residents regain lost skills.
- Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
- Evaluating resident's condition regarding physical and basic mental health.
- Confer with physicians, residents and their families, nurses, therapists, social workers, and other members of a resident’s care team.
- Develop a treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks that will help them meet those goals.
- Demonstrate exercises that can help patients better perform everyday tasks and relieve pain
- Recommend and teach residents how to use adaptive equipment that will help them with daily living, such as wheelchairs and eating aids.
- Assess residents’ progress against goals and prepare reports for healthcare providers and insurance agencies.
MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintaining professional knowledge and the technical progress in order to provide clients with the best treatment program available.Modify a resident’s personal living space within the facility to increase their safety.Create opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful activities despite their physical limitations.QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate from an accredited physical therapy program.Current State Occupational Therapist license.CPR certification for Health Care Providers.At least one (1) year in long-term care facility is preferred.Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.Ability to take care of clients with different personalities.KEY COMPETENCIES
