Astrana Health is seeking a Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner (GI NP) to provide specialized care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders in our outpatient clinic in Alhambra. This GI NP will preform comprehensive assessments, order and interpret diagnostic studies, initiate treatment plans, and provide education to patients with a wide range of GI conditions such as GERD, IBD, liver disease, and motility disorders. Working in collaboration with gastroenterologists and the interdisciplinary team, the GI NP will ensure effective, evidence-based, and patient-centered care.

What You'll Do

  • Practice under standardized procedures established for Nurse Practitioners, in compliance with Astrana Care policies and the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Conduct focused and comprehensive assessments of patients with GI and hepatic conditions, including detailed history-taking, physical exams, and risk factor evaluation.
  • Order, perform, and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies (e.g., labs, imaging, endoscopy prep and follow-up) as per protocols or provider collaboration.
  • Manage chronic GI conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, IBS, GERD, fatty liver disease, and chronic constipation, in collaboration with physicians.
  • Participate in the evaluation and triage of new referrals, consults, and pre-procedure assessments.
  • Educate patients on disease management, procedures (e.g., colonoscopy prep), lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify care plans based on clinical findings and patient response to therapy.
  • Collaborate with GI physicians on the management of complex cases, including patients undergoing biologic or immunosuppressive therapy.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, specialists, and primary care providers to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
  • Document all patient interactions, care plans, and follow-up in the electronic health record (EHR) system in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and manage urgent messages in person, via phone, or through secure electronic communication.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical protocols, and evidence-based practice initiatives within the GI service.
  • Support procedural areas with pre- and post-procedure assessments, including sedation clearance and follow-up management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in gastroenterology and hepatology care, including emerging treatments and technologies.
  • Provide mentorship or education to medical and nursing staff as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of a Master’s or Doctorate program in Nursing with Nurse Practitioner focus (Family NP or Adult NP) GI-specific training or clinical experience preferred but not required
  • Experience : 1+ year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred Gastroenterology, internal medicine, or related specialty experience strongly preferred
  • Active and unrestricted NP license (AANP, ANCC, or equivalent)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) – Required upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required and maintained
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with GI-specific treatments, medications (e.g., biologics, PPIs, immunomodulators), and patient education
  • Familiarity with endoscopy prep and follow-up processes Proficient in EHR systems (e.g., Epic) and clinical documentation
  • Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced clinic with autonomy and professionalism
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages) highly desirable
  • Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions

  • This position is in-office out of outpatient GI clinic. The office is located at 333 S Garfield Avenue #A, Alhambra, CA 91801.
  • Consult days will be M / W / F, administrative days will be Tu / Th.
  • The total compensation target pay range for this role is between $70 - $74 per hour, depending on credentials and experience. The salary range represents our national target range for this role.
