Overview
Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Philanthropy, the Development Director oversees the organization's mid-level annual fundraising efforts. This includes identifying, cultivating, and stewarding existing midlevel donors, and providing management around database administration, third-party fundraising, in-kind donations, and volunteers.
Essential Responsibility No. 1 - 30% of Time
Description : Provide supervision and management for the Development Services Manager and Development Associate. The goal of this team is to provide strategic engagement opportunities and donor stewardship strategies that will result in increased charitable support for the organization.
Task No. 1 Provide direct supervision to the Development Services Manager and the Development Associate.
Task No. 2 Provide assistance to the Development Services Manager in implementing and leading engagement strategies for community supporters through charitable giving, in-kind donation procurement, and community volunteer participation.
Task No. 4 Oversee Development Associate's Raiser's Edge data entry and processing of daily gifts, online contributions, pledges, monthly giving reports and queries for event solicitation, annual report mailings, end of year appeal, monthly accounting reconciliation, etc.
Task No. 5 Conduct regular audits and quality control checks of data entry and coding to ensure data accuracy, consistency and completeness.
Essential Responsibility No. 2 - 60% of Time
Description : Manage a portfolio of external mid-level and major gift donor relationships, ensuring thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to strengthen long-term philanthropic support. Lead the facilitation and coordination of a community engagement strategy, with a strong emphasis on building and sustaining partnerships with corporations and local community organizations.
Task No. 1 Develop and implement donor engagement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward partnerships with mid-level / major gift ($500-$5000) donors. Track donor engagement and giving patterns to forecast future giving. Develop strategy to build strong relationships to retain / upgrade donors over time.
Task No. 2 Meet prospective donors to qualify and to promote interest in providing major philanthropic support for organizational programs and priorities.
Task No. 3 Design and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy that encourages charitable giving through activities like identifying corporate and foundation grant opportunities, in-kind donation procurement, community and volunteer participation, event sponsorships, etc.
Task No. 4 Identify and secure new partnerships with local businesses, non-profits, corporations, and other community entities. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community leaders and other stakeholders.
Additional Responsibility No. 3 - 10% of Time
Description : Serve as a Development and Marketing Department member to assist as needed with fundraising efforts and department special events. Be flexible in schedule to support fundraising / stewardship events that take place on weekends, attend external networking events as an agency representative, etc. May be required to travel to external meetings / events as an agency representative.

Required Education and Credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Social Work or a comparable field with 2-3 years of experience in fund development / nonprofit fundraising and 1-2 years of management experience; OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to 6 years of experience working directly in nonprofit fund development / nonprofit fundraising and 1-2 years of management experience.
Knowledge
Understanding of trends in nonprofit fundraising. Knowledge of community partners and community resources. Understanding of ethical fundraising practices and respect for the confidentiality of data. Understanding of basic office equipment and computer software. Commitment to Youth In Need's organizational culture, philosophy, and systems. Individual must be sensitive to the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the service population. Knowledge of Microsoft office products and ability to navigate program-specific software. Ability to be CPR certified not required.
Experience
Experience in and commitment to advancing philanthropic relationships with external stakeholders, including in-kind donation supporters, community volunteers, private foundations, and corporate giving programs. Experience working with internal staff and external stakeholders to meet the needs of the organization.

Environmental Conditions
This job operates in an office environment with availability for remote work. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
When performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and write. Must have visual ability to supervise youth. Ability to lift 40 lbs. to carry supplies or donations.

Driver's License – Required
