Overview

Lead Large-Scale Civil Construction Projects Across the Midwest – SM Hentges & Sons Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Manager to plan, coordinate, and deliver high-value civil construction projects across the Midwest, including highways, bridges, and major utility installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Strategy & Planning : Develop project scopes, budgets, and timelines aligned with strategic objectives; assess project risks and define mitigation plans.
  • Leadership & Team Management : Direct project managers, superintendents, and support teams; promote a collaborative, high-performing environment.
  • Stakeholder Management : Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, engineers, and vendors; serve as primary point of contact for project communications.
  • Financial Oversight : Manage project budgets, cash flow, and cost controls; analyze financial performance and implement cost-effective strategies.
  • Quality & Safety : Oversee compliance with quality standards and safety regulations; foster proactive safety culture and accountability.
  • Documentation & Reporting : Maintain project records, permits, and change orders; provide executive-level reporting on status, risks, and financials.

Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of progressive experience managing heavy civil construction projects
  • Proven track record with large-scale DOT, municipal, and public works projects
  • Strong command of compliance, permitting, and construction specifications
  • Expertise in project scheduling tools (Primavera P6 or MS Project)
  • Proficient with construction management software (Vista, B2W, HCSS, Procore, or similar)
  • Knowledgeable in concrete / asphalt paving, structures, utilities, and earthwork
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred
