job_description.job_card.job_descriptionStarting November 3, 2025 Ongoing, open-ended coverage Patient Demographics : Adults Patient Volume / Census : Average per day Admissions : Yes Rounding : Included Case Mix : General Internal Medicine / Family Medicine hospitalist patients No. of Beds in Department : 506 hospital beds Trauma Level : Level II Trauma Center EMR System : Meditech Office Equipment Available : Standard hospital equipment Specialty Backup Available : Residency program support (IM / FM), subspecialties available Support Staff Available : Day 10 physicians (7 GME, 3 Non-GME), 2 NP / PA; Swing 1 NP / PA; Night 2 physicians (1 GME, 1 Non-GME) Reason for Coverage : Supplemental coverage Hospital Privileges Required : Yes Rate : Competitive, with Daily OT after 12 hours (differential) and Weekly OT after 168 hours (fixed) Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance : Covered Central lines Lumbar puncture Thoracentesis Paracentesis Licenses : Active Virginia medical license required Board : BE / BC in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine DEA : Active DEA required Certifications : Not specified Experience : For GME positions, prior GME experience required Other Qualifications : Must be clean file, willing to work days / nights, minimum 7 shifts Provide inpatient hospitalist care to adult patients Participate in rounding and admissions as required Perform procedures such as central lines, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, and paracentesis Collaborate with residency program and medical staff Ensure quality patient care and documentation in EMR system LewisGale Medical Center is a 306-bed facility and part of a system with four hospitals, two Cancer Centers, and six Outpatient Centers serving over 250,000 patients annually. Accredited chest pain center approved by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. Recognized for high performance on key quality measures by the Joint Commission. Salem, Virginia, located in Roanoke County within the Shenandoah Valley between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. Offers low cost of living, excellent schools, great neighborhoods, and recreational activities. Approximately 30 miles from Blacksburg and 104 miles from Greensboro, NC.
