Lead Engineer, Level 1, Substation Design Engineering (Hybrid Schedule)
Join the Eversource Energy team as a Lead Engineer in Substation Design Engineering. This hybrid schedule role blends office and remote work to meet operational needs.
Hybrid Schedule
Employees must work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and one additional day set by employee and supervisor. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed.
Role Summary
The Lead Engineer, Level 1 is responsible for development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the transmission and distribution systems. Key duties include evaluating system failures, providing unplanned maintenance support, ensuring high quality design standards, participating in the Life Cycle Plan, and overseeing engineering work.
Essential Functions
- Assign, prioritize, and direct work performed by outsourced engineering firms.
- Manage cost and performance of system assets, including reliability analysis and equipment condition monitoring.
- Develop, justify, and approve Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon.
- Ensure design and specification of system additions, modifications, and replacements are accurate and timely.
- Develop conceptual engineering designs and prepare detailed documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure consistency.
- Mentor and coach engineers; serve as escalation point and lead team members as required.
- Provide technical support to operating areas during normal and emergency situations.
- Lead root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Evaluate and select technology and equipment for the system.
- Develop standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
- Design interconnection requests for generation (solar, wind, nuclear, battery) into existing brownfield substations and plan greenfield substations.
- Upgrade substation equipment to support Distributed Generation Resources (DER).
- Support principal engineers in corporate testimony and written responses for rate cases and regulatory proceedings.
- Assist in presenting project alternatives and scope during Solution Design Committee (SDC) and Eversource Project Approval Committee (EPAC) meetings.
- Conduct engineering studies and complete non-routine projects with minimal oversight.
- Assume storm duty and major event assistance as needed.

Knowledge of utility power systems.Ability to independently develop, present, and execute new projects through collaboration with other departments.Familiarity with power-related software.Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) required.
Experience
Minimum 5–8 years of Substation Engineering or related electric utility experience.

None required.
Working Conditions
Must be available for emergency restoration assignments.Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.Job may require occasional to significant car travel; a valid driver's license is required.Competencies

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a potential incentive. Annual salary range : $125,680.00 – $139,640.00.
