Position Type : Contract

Contract Duration : 5.5 months

Pay Rate : $21.25 – $24.34 / hour

Shift / Hours : Tuesday – Saturday, 12 : 30 AM – 09 : 00 AM (CST)

(Rotational weekends, flexibility required)

Job Summary

The Technical Lab Assistant performs essential, routine laboratory functions to support clinical testing. This position ensures specimen integrity, lab readiness, and workflow efficiency , enabling laboratory professionals to process and deliver diagnostic results. The role requires precision, organization, and strong adherence to safety and quality protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Receive and sort laboratory specimens

Conduct routine maintenance on select lab instruments

Perform centrifugation, label printing, and sample preparation

Record temperature charts and track specimen storage / retrieval

Prepare reagents and media for testing

Build worklists and check specimens for clots / fibrin

Inoculate plates, prepare slides, and aliquot specimens

Complete QA / QC duties and resolve pending specimen issues

Track and locate missing samples

Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests

Change gas cylinders and manage lab waste disposal

Use laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry

Maintain department records and complete required training / competency checklists

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple responsibilities

Strong information retention and task accuracy

Ability to interact respectfully with coworkers and customers

Nice-to-Have Experience

Medical assistant training

Background in science or math coursework

Previous lab, hospital, or clinical experience (not required)
