POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the dentist, the incumbent will function as a circulating assistant in chairside dental procedures. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in all dentistry procedures, terminology, materials, medications and instruments used during dental procedures.
The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all phases of four (4) handed Dental Assisting duties for Endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics and restorative procedures;
- Perform the following supportive tasks to ensure efficiency of patient flow :
Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist dentist during dental procedures;
Stock and store all supplies and materials;Maintenance and testing of equipment (sterilizer, x-ray dosimetry, x-ray processor, etc.) including daily lubrication of equipment;Pouring up models and other lab procedures;Instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under the supervision of the dentist;Inventory and reorder supplies as necessary to maintain par levels;Documentation of exam findings in patient record;Maintain clean, orderly and well stocked operatories and lab equipment.Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient;Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts;Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Dentist;Record treatment information in patient records;Collaborate with all coworkers in performing duties required to provide patient-focused services that meet all regulatory and licensing standards;Maintain high confidentiality standards at all times. Incumbent required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment;May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : High School diploma or equivalentExperience : Six (6) months of related experienceLicensing and Certification :Licensed Dental Assistant (RDA) in CaliforniaLicensed Dental Assistant in Extended Functions (RDAEF2) in CaliforniaCurrent CPR / 1st Aid certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart AssociationBilingual in Spanish preferredSUPERVISORIAL DUTIES : None
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Ability to perform standard and radiographic methods; Able to expose, process and mount diagnostic radiographs;Able to display a comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement dental care techniques;Possess a thorough knowledge of dental instrumentation and equipment use and care;Proficient in dental procedures and potential complications;Able to recognize signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions;Must be tactful, poised, pleasant and diplomatic, exhibiting a positive, professional demeanor to co-workers, patients, and visitors.Must demonstrate cooperation and consideration of other health team members and peers.Must be organized and versatile with the ability to function effectively in stressful situations.Must be eager and enthusiastic in promoting the general philosophy of the facility.Must be able to maintain patient and facility confidentiality.Dedicated hard worker with ability to report to work on a daily basis.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time.Must be able to assist patients weighing up to two hundred (200) pounds with getting up and down from dental chairs.Good manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
