Description :
The unit comprises of a 16-bed Intensive Care Unit, including a Medical Intensive Care Unit and a Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 to 2.
Required skills include titration of drips such as Precedex, pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation.
Charge nurses take on assignments, with day shifts commonly being a blend of staff nurse responsibilities.
Night shifts may have a house supervisor with a smaller assignment to assist staff.
There are hospitalists or intensivists available 24 / 7.
Respiratory therapy is also provided in the unit 24 / 7.
Tele-monitor technicians are available to monitor patients, while RNs are required to interpret strips.
Shifts are scheduled as three 12-hour shifts starting at 7 AM.
Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.
Nurses may be expected to float occasionally to other units as help.
The dress code for the unit is black scrubs.
There is a cancellation policy allowing clients to cancel a limited number of shifts without penalty for assignments of specified lengths.
Charting is done using Allscripts - Sunrise.
Candidates should possess adequate skills necessary for the diverse range of diagnoses encountered, including advanced life support interventions and critical care procedures.
