Description :
The position is for an Emergency Room Registered Nurse.
The department operates as a Trauma Level II facility.
There are 21 beds and trauma bays, including a fast track area.
Stable patients are moved back to the waiting room with orders from the medical team.
A separate triage area is available for vital sign checks.
Core staff typically perform triage, but travelers can take on those competencies based on experience.
Boarding patients are managed within the ER by the nursing staff.
A psych room with camera surveillance is available.
Security is on-site 24 / 7 in the emergency room.
On average, the ER treats 50-60 patients per day, primarily ESI Level 3 and 4, with rare Level 1 cases.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1 : 3-4, and may reach 1 : 5 in certain conditions.
Patients cared for in the ER range from pediatrics to geriatrics and include trauma cases.
Common conditions treated include stroke, STEMI, shortness of breath, and abdominal pain.
Common medications administered include vasopressors, heparin, and antiarrhythmics.
Critical care drips will require a 1 : 1 nursing ratio for ICU holds.
All medical staff in the ER are licensed physicians with no mid-level providers.
A charge nurse is present on each shift to manage department throughput without taking an assignment.
An ED tech assists with patient care, vitals, and EKGs on each shift.
Respiratory therapy service is available when needed, but not on-site 24 / 7.
Registered nurses are responsible for interpreting telemetry strips.
X-ray and CT services are located adjacent to the emergency room for stability assessment.
RNs draw labs, while phlebotomy is available as a resource.
Shifts may vary, with potential times including morning, daytime, and overnight.
Weekend and holiday shifts are required every other scheduling period.
Floating to other units is rare, depending on staffing and census needs.
The dress code permits any color scrubs.
Candidates must also adhere to distance restrictions from other associated facilities.
Requests for time off should be made upfront and additional requests will not be approved after submission.
The charting system used is EPIC.
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is not required for this position.
